"Women’s Open Talk Todmorden has been a welcomed support group in my life. Struggling with bereavement of my child and trying to cope with all that comes with also having a child with additional needs and battling to get support for them, it’s difficult trying to process all the emotions that come with those challenges in life. I tend to mask it and put on a brave face for everyone around me but that’s not helpful to myself I’m fully aware. Being able to just offload has been a release I have needed. I find it difficult to set time aside for myself particularly during the day due to juggling work and a child that hasn’t been able to attend school and being a carer to a family member. Accessing appointments in those times for things such as counselling or other things that could help my wellbeing and impossible at this time not to mention the waiting lists. The evenings offer more flexibility to myself. I know that continuing attending and allowing that commitment to myself will improve my wellbeing. Life already feels a little more manageable. From listening to others it’s very clear to see people are going through similar and feeling similar which has helped me to feel less isolated in my thoughts. The facilitators have done a wonderful job to ensure the session is run smoothly and it feels like a welcoming, safe space to be able to share or just listen. I feel like the group is an asset to Todmorden and very much needed to increase mental wellbeing, reduce isolation and to feel more connected to the local community."
